A story contains the set of all events in a narrative, whether they are explicitly presented or inferred. The plot is everything that is visibly and audibly present in the film, during the actual time period one would watch the film.

Group Project #1 (100 pts.): Choose a group of 5 people max. (you may work alone) and analyze the structure and theme of one of the films screened in class. See handouts and group unit 1 below for more details. Answer as many questions as possible with examples. Show clips from the film to help us understand the structure and meaning. Turn in your notes for other group projects for full credit. Your Powerpoint will be uploaded to this site for students to review. Any questions about the film? Still confused? Start with IMDB.COM's Frequently Asked Questions about your film. Try to get 2-3 articles/links/websites per person.
FOR YOUR UNIT 1 HOMEWORK FILM (Partners ok): Use the Unit 1 homework questions above and anything from the screening checklist to explain the structure and meaning of the film.
Create a plot chart/diagram/map.
Apply the terms you've learned in Unit 1 to your answers. Underline them or highlight them in your paper.
Choose a film with a unique, confusing, and non-linear structure. You must get the film approved by me. Watch the film several times over the next month or so and answer the SCREENING CHECKLIST questions (see below) and the questions on the unit1filmhomework document (see below). Many of the questions will overlap so you don't have to repeat yourself. Use the checklist and questions as a guideline. Use as many terms as possible (the more you use, the better your grade). Underline/Highlight/Bold the terms in your paper. Use examples, dialogue, screenshots, plot points, scenes, or whatever else from the film to support your analysis. Include a detailed plot chart in your homework. Use the homework doc and screening checklist below to help you with your analysis. The more, the better!
